Crazy Dave vs. The Rattlesnake
Ok, so Crazy Dave and I decided last weekend that it would be a good idea if we took the dogs out for some exercise. We headed out toward Pahrump and ended up on a dirt/rock road that seemed endless but turned out to be a good place to run the dogs. Well, needless to say the poor pooches got a little traumatized by the experience as they were let out of the truck while we continued on as they ran behind us. It took quite a bit of coaxing to get them out of the truck the 2nd time that's for sure! As we went on our merry way we came upon this here rattlesnake just minding it's own business and laying in the middle of the road. Well Dave thought it would be really groovy to get a picture of it so he ventured out of the truck with camera in hand. Ok, I thought one picture of the snake laying in the road would be good enough but not Crazy Dave, no way man. That wasn't good enough. There was a much cooler picture to be taken. Afterall we needed a good snake pose, right? Well what is a guy to do to get a cool snake pose you ask? Poke it with a stick of course! So, here we have Crazy Dave, stick and snake. Meanwhile I'm sitting in the truck wondering what the hell I'm gonna do if Dave really pisses this thing off and it strikes. I'm certainly not going to suck the poison out of him and I for sure can't carry his big ass off the road so as far as I'm concerned the dogs and I would just have to head back home alone. Not my problem, right? I didn't tell him to get out of the truck. Anyway, back to the snake. Snake is getting just a bit agitated by stick but not enough to strike. Snake starts to rattle a bit and move around. 2nd picture is taken. Still not good enough. Let's try one more poke. There we go, that's it! Snake coils, rattles and sticks out tongue. 3rd picture is taken. Perfect! Dave is finally satisfied and with smile on face reenters the truck while I'm clenching my heart and practically vomiting on myself. The dogs don't have a clue as to what just happened since they were only concerned about when they would be forced out of the truck again and possibly abandoned and left to die out in the middle of BFE. Anyway, as we all drove away from our little friend unscathed, we finally got to the end of the road which led to a nifty little campsite where we all got out to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the dogs got to get their feet wet in the water. It was a very nice day and we had a great time. I just regret not bringing my own camera so I could have gotten a shot of Dave getting a shot of the snake. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to have it with me next time when he decides to tackle a bear. LOL!
That's the one!
That's the one!
