Friday = Fun! Blast From The Past -

Only one of the best drunk party games ever! My sisters and I used to have the best time playing this game when we were kids. I tracked down this same vintage game and try to remember to put it out when I have parties. It's definitely on my top 10 list of most fun games to play while intoxicated. That and Operation. Try it. Seriously, you won't be disappointed!

To my friend Merlin - you gave me endless hours of joy and entertainment. I'll never forget the times you saved me from vomiting profusely during road trips when I used to get car sick. You will always have a special place in my heart.

Oh Simon, how I love thee! You helped develop my memory skills and tried to teach me patience at the same time. I'm so sorry that I allowed myself to get frustrated with you and beat your poor colors senseless so that you wouldn't work anymore. Please forgive me.
Since I was a little girl in the 70's, I ended up with the second version of the Mystery Date Game. I must say out of all the games I had, I really wish I held on to this one. People are mad about this old game for some reason and they seem to worth a small fortune so if you are looking for one, make sure you have a small fortune saved up to get one. Ebay sellers have no problem getting rid of these suckers. And as for the original 60's version - forget about it!!

I had so much fun with Run Yourself Ragged, I just had to get another one. The game is perfectly named because you can really aggravate yourself trying to get to the end. The magnetic ball that you manuver through the maze always liked to either jump off the game or fly across the room when you tried to catapult it to the finish. Definitely not a game for kids with a heavy hand.
Speak & Spell rocks! I played with it so much that the letters started falling off. I was heartbroken when it ended up in the bonepile. On a happier note, I actually came across one of these same exact versions in a thrift store a few years ago. The game was clean and intact. No batteries were in it but I took it to the counter, paid my $1.99 and took my chances. Well, wouldn't you know the damn thing works perfectly and I still play with it to this day. I even came up with a fun game of my own. Get a group of drunk friends together, single out the worst spellers and have them challenge each other to a spelling match. I know it seems cruel but I must say, after playing drunk spelling match a couple of times, I realize it was probably the best $1.99 I ever spent. I will definitely keep my eyes out for the Speak & Math version now. These puppies sell for a pretty good penny on Ebay.

This is only the coolest calculator ever! You can play games and learn math! Fun stuff!

Ok, how many of you would admit to either taking this cube apart or peeling the stickers off and then putting it back together like you actually solved it? Yeah, me neither. Heh.

Funny Bones was a fun family game. I doubt any families now would even consider playing a game like this. It's much easier to plant your kids in front of the tv or computer.

I totally kicked ass on this football game. I ended up leaving it with my friend's stepdad because he could never beat me.

The one I always wanted but never got. You know how much these suckers are going for on Ebay? My advice to anyone who has kids is - don't throw ANY of their toys away. You never know what they might be worth 20 years from now!

Almost Friday But Not

In keeping up with my lame days of the week blog entries, I stumbled across Thursday. They are a band out of New Jersey. I've never heard of them but they get props on my blog today for having the right name. If you would like to know more about this band check out this link -

Fallen Hero

Today is the day of Sgt Henry Prendes' funeral. He was killed in the line of duty last Wednesday while responding to a domestic disturbance call. As Sgt Prendes approached the front door of the suspect's house, he was ambushed. Henry Prendes grew up in Las Vegas and graduated from the same high school I did. He was a class ahead of me and though I only knew him in passing and through other friends, I remember him very well. He was the handsome football player that all the girls wanted to date. He ended up marrying his high school sweetheart and having 2 daughters. He then remarried and spent his life protecting the community as well as attending church services and spending time with his family. He was a 14 year veteran on the force and was loved by all who knew him. I was able to watch a little of the funeral procession on the news today and was touched and impressed by the outcome of people who paid their respects by lining up on the city streets while the police vehicle carrying his body drove by. It is a sad day for Las Vegas as we all say goodbye to Henry Prendes. He will always be a hero in our city and to people everywhere. 37 years was too short for a man so caring and brave. My prayers are with his family and friends. We can only hope for more men like Henry. The world would be a much better place.
